Frequently Asked Questions

If your questions are not answered here, please don't hesitate to email me with them.

1.

Do you take insurance?

Depending on your policy, you may be able to use your benefits to see me.

I am an out-of-network provider.  What that means is if your health coverage is a PPO (Preferred Provider Organization), it means you have "out-of-network" benefits, and you can use these benefits to see me.

I am happy to do the claims submissions directly, so that you only pay a co-insurance, rather than paying up front and getting reimbursed.  This works with most plans, including Aetna, Cigna, Harvard Pilgrim, Optum, United Health Care and UBH.

For people who have PPO's through Blue Cross, you can use your insurance to see me, however BCBS does not allow clinicians to bill the insurance company directly.  Instead, they require that you pay up front and get reimbursed.  There is a relatively streamlined way of doing this, but there is a time between when we submit and when your reimbursement is received.

Unfortunately, I am not, at this time, an in-network provider for any HMO policies.

2.

What is your fee if I pay out of pocket (i.e. don't use my insurance?

My fee for individual therapy is $ 195/session

For couples therapy it is $ 200/session

3.

If I'm not sure about my out-of-network benefits, what can I do?

Call your insurance provider.  The number should be on the back of your card.

Some plans have a specific phone number for mental health.  If yours does, call that number.

Here are the questions to ask:

Do I have out-of-network benefits?

Do I have a deductible?  If so, what is it?  And are there separate 'out-of-network' and 'in-network' deductibles?

What % is covered?  And what % is my co-insurance?

4.

Do you have a sliding fee scale?

Under circumstances where paying full fee is prohibitive, I am sometimes able to reduce my fee to make it more affordable for you.  If this is an issue for you, we can talk on the phone before our first session to determine a manageable fee.

5.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

I do require 24 hours cancellation notice in order to avoid being charged your regular fee.  I expect that if you cancel with less than 24 hours notice you'll either send me a check for your missed session or bring it with you to your next session.

In order to maintain my practice I have to use this business model,  however there are extenuating circumstances where I'll be able to waive this policy

You may cancel by email or phone.

6.

Do you have evening appointments?

Yes, I do.  Sometimes I don't have a regular weekly time slot available, so until a regular one opens up, I can generally find an evening during any given week to see someone.  So, if your choice of evening is somewhat flexible, there should be no problem.  Once a regular evening time opens up, it's yours.

7.

Do you have Saturday appointments?

Ordinarily not.  However, under special circumstances, for example, if a family memeber who you'd like to have come in with you is only here on a weekend, most likely we can arrange a weekend time.

8.

What is the best way to get in touch?

You can get in touch with me either by phone (617-527-1235) or email (mimrab@gmail.com).  Often people would like a phone conversation before setting up a first appointment, however after an initial contact I often get see my emails before I get to phone messages.
